How Thoracic Kyphosis Contributes to Low Back Pain

Thoracic kyphosis—an excessive forward curvature of the upper back—can do more than just affect your posture. It often leads to pain in the lower back, even though the problem originates higher up in the spine.

When the thoracic spine rounds forward, it shifts the body's center of gravity and alters spinal alignment. This places extra strain on the lumbar (lower) spine as it tries to compensate for the imbalance. Over time, this compensation can lead to muscle fatigue, joint stress, and chronic low back pain.

Poor posture, prolonged sitting, and lack of movement are common contributors to thoracic kyphosis. Left unaddressed, this condition not only affects how you stand and move but also increases the risk of long-term spinal degeneration.

Chiropractic care and posture-focused treatments can help correct kyphotic curvature, relieve low back pain, and restore balance to the spine. Addressing the cause rather than just the symptom is key to lasting relief.
